Known as the “High-Tech Doctor with Low-Tech Solutions,” Dr. Barnett is an Interventional Radiologist and senior partner with Borg and Ide Imaging in Rochester, NY, where he has practiced since 1986. Dr. Barnett became plant-based in 1991 after reading the work of Dr. Dean Ornish on reversal of heart disease. He is dedicated to transforming the practice of medicine using the principles of Lifestyle Medicine and Plant-Based Nutrition. Co-Coordinator (with wife Carol) of the Rochester Area Vegan Society (RAVS) since 1995; Founder and CEO of Rochester Lifestyle Medicine Group (RLMG, 2015); Founding President and Board Chair, Rochester Lifestyle Medicine Institute (RLMI, 2017). Board-certified in Diagnostic Imaging (1984); Board-certified in Vascular & Interventional Radiology (inaugural examination, 1995); one of the first 204 physicians board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine (inaugural examination, 2017). Graduate of Yale University (BS 1976) and Tufts University (MD 1980); father of three adult children who are lifelong vegans.
Since 2012, Dr. Barnett has taught a 6-week 12-CME Plant-Based Nutrition course, accredited for physicians by the University of Rochester, which (as of August 2020) has been given 20 times and reached over 850 people in the Rochester, NY area. His team has developed a medically-supervised 15-Day Whole-Food Plant-Based Jumpstart program which (as of August 2020) has been given over 20 times to over 500 patients. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Jumpstart has become a virtual online Zoom-based program utilized by patients and physicians around the U.S. and Canada.
