Lifestyle Medicine Reimbursement Summit

The 2023 Lifestyle Medicine Reimbursement Summit is a series of presentations that showcase how ACLM physicians and advanced practice providers are getting paid to deliver lifestyle medicine in both fee-for-service and value-based care settings. It also showcases the roles of other billable and non-billable members of the interdisciplinary care team in the delivery of care. The Summit consists of 14 presentations and a total of about 3.5 hours.

Opportunities for Lifestyle Medicine Reimbursement

The Reimbursement Summit features emerging opportunities for integrating lifestyle medicine into both new and existing healthcare payment models including:

  • fee-for-service settings through various models, including intensive cardiac rehabilitation, chronic care management and shared medical appointments
  • value-based payment models which align well with lifestyle medicine and provide flexibility for patient care
  • direct primary care, concierge medicine, and the potential for lifestyle medicine in the self-funded employer market
Padmaja Patel Circle177

“I want us to change our narrative about reimbursement. For too long we have said that lifestyle medicine does not get reimbursed, but that is no longer true. In fact, lifestyle medicine is unique; it transcends all the barriers around practice types, provider specialties and reimbursement structures. We have seen successful implementation in outpatient practice, a variety of inpatient settings, post-surgery and even hospice care. We have seen successful lifestyle medicine implementation in primary care and across all specialty care settings.”
