Advocating to advance the future of healthcare

ACLM leads strategic non-partisan efforts to make lifestyle medicine the standard of care for treating, reversing and preventing chronic disease. We aim to reshape healthcare by addressing the levers that catalyze systemic change.

Our priority areas

Education

  • Reallocation of funding to train and equip medical students and residents in lifestyle medicine
  • Train current physician and health professional workforce in LM to support interprofessional team-based care in identifying and eradicating the root cause of disease
  • Create a “LM Education for America” Task Force

Payment Models

  • Develop new or modify existing models that reward improved outcomes, as well as health restoration achieved through disease remission/reversal
  • Develop new models that support interprofessional team-based care
  • Design CMMI demonstration project integrating LM care models
  • Value Based Care: remove unintended consequences of current disease management framework

Quality Measures

  • Develop new or refine existing measures that reward, rather than penalize, clinicians for improved outcomes, including disease remission/reversal
  • Develop new quality measures that incent and reward LM as the foundation of care, as recommended in nearly all chronic disease- and prevention-related clinical practice guidelines (CPGs)
  • Develop measures that assess and address lifestyle behaviors

Strength in partnerships

We collaborate with leading national coalitions and non-profits to ensure lifestyle medicine is taught early and often, is considered the foundation of care as cited in most clinical practice guidelines, is acknowledged and rewarded in quality measure frameworks, and provides effective payment for interprofessional teams.
