Lifestyle Medicine 2013- Be Inspired!

Wayne Dysinger, MD, MPH
Director, Lifestyle Medicine Institute

Marc Braman, MD, MPH, past ACLM Executive Director built a strong foundation for ACLM’s annual conference. Building on his incredible work, our amazing planning committee takes the reins in 2013 to execute another truly once in a lifetime event. The committee includes myself, Mark Faries, PhD, Amanda McKinney, MD, Joe Rapheal, DrPH, Jennifer Rooke, MD, MPH, and Cindy West, MD. We also continue to utilize our event planning professionals Lisa Gregory and Grace Stillar who equally share in the excitement for this event. A huge thank you to everyone who has committed their time to furthering our progress on promoting a better kind of healthcare!

This year’s event is our third consecutive standalone Lifestyle Medicine conference, but our very first nationally developed full-scope conference including a complete spectrum of inspirational presentations, scientific summaries and practical workshops. It’s the beginning of a lifestyle medicine movement. We are excited to share that this movement is growing fast with a 250% registration increase compared to 2012 at this time last year.

Check out a Who’s Who 2013 list of presenters – including lifestyle medicine luminaries who have contributed to scientific evidence and supporting organizations for decades. Over the course of this nearly four day event an elite group of leaders will present including Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, James Rippe, John McDougall, Eddie Phillips, Neal Barnard, Michael Greger, Roseanne Rust, Steve Blair, Liana Lianov, David Katz - and the list goes on.

We are particularly excited about the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine’s contributions at this year’s event.  They are kicking of the conference with an expert roundtable and scientific symposium.  The conference will also include a 5K run, stress reduction activities, a Treat the Cause Movement dinner, special whole food plant based meals, a table-top exhibit and more!

Although you’ll be inspired by great speakers and learn from significant researchers, you will also have the opportunity to interact with like-minded professionals who are your companions on a journey towards changing how health care is delivered in the USA and around the world.  Lifestyle Medicine should be a core component of decreasing health care costs, increasing patient satisfaction, and improving health outcomes for individuals with or who are at-risk for chronic disease – including everyone from me to you.  Join us in Washington DC, October 27-30, 2013 and be part of this movement.  Each one of you can change the world and make a significant difference!
